PopWrap: Nigel Lythgoe revokes Paula's 'Dance' card!‏

So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe spent a good portion of last season trying to woo Paula Abdul over to his judges panel to no avail. Now, on the same day that her Star Search deal goes kaput, Nigel tells PopWrap that he's revoking the invitation!

"I spent an entire season wooing her and if she was ever going to do it, she would have," Nigel tells PopWrap. The timing was perfect for her and I was rather shocked she didn't pick up and join us at any point. I mean, Katie Holmes was there, Jennifer Lopez was there. I know we don't have "Idol" money and so does Paula, but at the end of the day I do plenty of things for no money because I want to support dance. And as an dancer/performer/choreographer, I would have thought she'd like to support us."
But that wasn't the only news Nigel was breaking today -- not only did he reveal his pick to replace Simon Cowell -- Elton John! -- but it sounds like Mary Murphy's hot tamale train has seen its last passenger!

PopWrap: You recently Tweeted about major changes coming to "SYTYCD," what can you tell us?

Nigel Lythgoe: Shocking, shocking, shocking format changes. I can't say anything just yet, not until all my ducks are in a row, but it's going to be huge. I will tweet when we're going to release the news.

PW: Many people feel that you are referring to Mary Murphy leaving since she missed a lot of auditions, are you?

Nigel: I wasn't talking about that, but she did miss a bunch. You know, I'd like to see Mary choreographing this season. But her absence gave me the opportunity to use more people as judges, to move around more.

PW: Will these rotating judges carry through to the live shows?

Nigel: I hope so. I know Adam [Shankman] wants to stick around, but this last season with me, Adam and Mary was a little predictable. I sort of felt like I knew what everyone would say before they said it. But I am not moving!

Some Dance Nostalgia: Soul Train!

Apparently VH1 has aired a documentary about the show Soul Train. I used to love watching the show on Saturday mornings. We tried our best to do some of these moves at the high school dances.

We did a dance routine to this O'Jays song:

So You Think You Can Dance Is Moving Back to the Summer!

Courtesy of EW

"Aspiring dancers had better start stretching: Fox’s hit reality series So You Think You Can Dance will launch its seventh season with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, May 27. Auditions are still underway for this year’s contestants, who will compete in various dance genres for a cash prize."

Thank God the show is moving back to the summer! Let's just hope it recovers from some of the other problems that plagued season 6 as well. But can I get a hip hip huzzah?

Glee Season 1 Volume 1 DVD Review

Hey there SYTYCD Social readers! Natalie, here. I was absent during Season 6 of SYTYCD, so I apologize if this entry is completely out of the blue.

Since all of you, let us hope, are SYTYCD fans, I imagine that you may have heard of a little show known as Glee. It aired this past Fall after SYTYCD on Fox on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (new episodes won’t be back until April 13th – cue booing). I had the privilege of receiving a copy of Glee on the day of its release (December 29th) and I wanted to review it to hopefully give you guys some incentive to go out and buy the first volume of the first season of Glee!

Besides the first 13 episodes that are included on the 4-disc collection, there are quite a few special features. Everything from audition pieces to fun facts about some of the cast are on the 4th disc and are not to be missed. Follow the jump to find out what the Glee’s Season 1 Volume 1 Road to Sectionals DVD holds for you!

In Which Season 6 Gets Shafted Yet Again...

Hey folks,

So, you may have already seen this news, but season 6 is apparently not going to get a tour...

No Tour Planned for SYTYCD's Season Six Top 10

Mollee broke the news on Twitter, and "According to a representative for the show, the tour is not absolutely, positively canceled, but neither is it on the drawing board. The rep says: "It has been a very unique year for So You Think You Can Dance with seasons five and six airing back-to-back and season seven auditions starting in January. Each season we strive to deliver a stellar tour for the fans and are still open to touring opportunities with the season-six dancers in the future, but nothing has been set at this time." Which, in non-public relations terms means it ain't happening.

I have never been to the tour (a combination of not being around when they come near my neck of the woods and just a wee bit of apathy), but this truly sucks for the top 10, not only in the loss of more time together performing, but also in the loss of the steady paycheck the tour provides. Are you all torn up about this? Were you planning on seeing the tour? Do you think that maybe, just maybe, it's because TPTB realized that this season didn't quite have what the others had (and maybe not enough numbers within the top 10 alone to justify a tour)?

the future of sytycd

According to E Online:

Are there going to be back-to-back seasons of So You Think You Can Dance again?
Mastermind Nigel Lythgoe tells us no. "It was never anticipated to run twice a year, and it's unfair on [season-five winner] Jeannine to have Russell there. She should have her year. I still don't know if it's going be in the summer or in the fall next year." As for a potential STYTCD all-star season, Nigel has an even cooler idea: "I personally would love to put a show in Vegas. I'd love to take all of the American Idol's that are terrific but didn't win, and the SYTYCD dancers and do a really great show." We're guessing if Nigel wants it, he'll get it.

America Crowns Their Favorite Dancer

The night opened with a sexy Top 18 (why not 20?) super hot group dance choreographed by Kelley Abbey and set to "Scared of Me" by Freddie le Grand. My husband even walked by and was distracted by the stockings and garters. "Ooh, those are hot." Add a red chair to any dance and I'm a happy girl.

Fantasy SYTYCD Season 6 Finale (5 of 6)

Props to mightygodking.com who came in 4th overall with his top 16 picks (read: he won the hard game). Props to me for WINNING and for showing up twice on the leaderboard. Props to Snow for being the only other player (besides ME) to finish under par.

If you missed it and want to play too, or had fun and are ready to play again, I'll be running another game for the upcoming season of AI, and I'll be hosting it at American Idol Social.
